The Endocannabinoid System
Today we are going to explain what you should already know. Your Body has something called The Endocannabinoid System. But they don’t want you to know about that, do they???
That’s why it’s not thought in schools.
If you’ve never heard of it or you have but just don’t know exactly what is it and how it works, then this article is for you!!
So you know that you, well I mean your body, has different systems that are running, for example, the immune system.
You know that you have a cardiovascular system, etc.
You might not know the details, but you are aware they exist and you maybe even know a little bit about what they do.
If we ask a thousand people probably not one of them would even know what the Endocannabinoid System is. Much less actually explain what the Endocannabinoid System actually does.
Isn’t it weird that we know so little about ourselves, about our bodies, about our minds?
So let’s jump right into it, shall we?
What Is The Endocannabinoid System?
The word endo is short for endogenous which means your own – which means it’s growing or originating from within an organism,.. within your own body.
And the word cannabinoid is named after the plant that led to its discovery – and yes ladies and gentlemen it is the cannabis plant.
Yes, the same compounds that are found in the cannabis plant are the exact same compounds that our bodies produce all by themselves in order to function properly.
Known as “the body’s own cannabinoid system”, The Endocannabinoid System is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, memory and much more.
The Endocannabinoid System also called the ECS is present in all humans and many animals as well.
This system in your body produces its own cannabinoids, and also has a series of receptors that are configured only to accept those cannabinoids.
Especially cannabinoid known as Cannabidiol or CBD and the infamous delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol better known as THC. Yes, that’s the one that gets you high.
THC and CBD are the two main cannabinoids that studies are currently focused on, however, there are actually hundreds more.
The fact that there is a system in our body that produces cannabinoids – the same cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and is specifically designed to accept just them, should be overwhelming proof of cannabis efficacy as a medicine.
From the pain-killing effects to the anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, we have just scratched the surface of a world of possibilities.
The Endocannabinoid System is perhaps the most important physiological system involved in establishing and maintaining human health.
Cannabinoids produced by our bodies and their receptors are found throughout the whole body:
- in the brain,
- connective tissues,
- glands, and
- immune cells.
In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis. The maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.
Homeostasis simply means BALANCE
Homeostasis is a key element in the biology of all living things and is best described as the ability to maintain stable internal conditions that are necessary for survival.
The disease is simply a result of some aspect of failure in achieving homeostasis.
So in one sentence, What Is The Endocannabinoid System?
Is your body’s own system that’s maintaining balance within you.
Is your body’s own system that’s in charge of maintaining overall and constant balance within you.
Cannabinoids promote homeostasis or balance at every level of biological life. From the sub-cellular to the organism, and perhaps to the community and beyond.
How The Endocannabinoid System Achieves Homeostasis?
Here’s one example:
a process in which a cell’s ability to be self-digested and recycled is mediated by the cannabinoid system.
This process keeps normal cells alive, allowing them to maintain a balance between the synthesis, degradation, and subsequent recycling of cellular products.
BUT it has a deadly effect on malignant tumor cells, causing them to consume themselves in a programmed cellular suicide.
The death of cancer cells, of course, promotes homeostasis – balance and survival at the level of the entire organism.
The Endocannabinoid System is Present in the Whole Body
Endocannabinoids are also found at the intersection of the body’s various systems, allowing communication and coordination between different cell types.
At the site of an injury, for example, cannabinoids can be found decreasing the release of activators and sensitizers from the injured tissue, stabilizing the nerve cell to prevent excessive firing, and calming nearby immune cells to prevent a release of pro-inflammatory substances.
Three different mechanisms of action on three different cell types for a single purpose: minimize the pain and damage caused by the injury.
The Endocannabinoid System – literally a bridge between body and mind.
The Endocannabinoid System, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body’s organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind.
In addition to regulating our internal and cellular homeostasis, cannabinoids influence a person’s relationship with the external environment.
Socially, the administration of cannabinoids clearly alters human behavior, often promoting sharing, humor, and creativity.
By mediating neurogenesis, neuronal plasticity, and learning, cannabinoids may directly influence a person’s open-mindedness and ability to move beyond limiting patterns of thought and behavior from past situations.
Reformatting these old patterns is an essential part of health in our quickly changing environment.
In addition to cannabinoids, the chemical profile of the cannabis plant contains other compounds like:
- amino acids,
- fatty acids,
- esters, and
- flavonoids, just to name a few.
Naturally, you consume all of these compounds when medicating with cannabis.
The question is how do all of these compounds work together to provide therapeutic relief?
The answer can be found in a concept called the “Entourage Effect”. Again something you have probably never heard before and is not thought in schools.
What is The “Entourage Effect” of Our Body’s Endocannabinoid System?
The basic idea of the Entourage Effect is that cannabinoids within the cannabis plant work together, or possess synergy, and affect the body in a mechanism similar to the body’s own Endocannabinoid System.
This means that it’s far more effective to use the whole cannabis plant for achieving health than individual cannabinoid extractions or worst, synthetic cannabinoids!!!
It’s basically the same as eating whole-grain food.
Eating whole-grain food is far more beneficial for your body as opposed to eating processed food.
Some would even say that eating processed food is not just less beneficial than eating whole-grain food but it’s actually BAD for you.
The same is when medicating with cannabinoids. It’s far more beneficial to use the whole cannabis plant as opposed to isolates!
And forget about the synthetic cannabinoids. You don’t even want to go there.
Cannabis, The Endocannabinoid System, And Good Health
No matter how much research we do,… one thing remains clear:
“A functional Endocannabinoid System in our bodies is not just necessary but essential for health!!!“
From embryonic implantation on the wall of our mother’s uterus to nursing and growth to responding to injuries, cannabinoids and well functioning Endocannabinoid System help us survive in a quickly changing and increasingly hostile environment.
The question then is:
Can an individual enhance his or her Endocannabinoid System by taking supplemental cannabis?
Beyond treating symptoms, beyond even curing disease.
Can cannabis help us prevent disease and promote health by stimulating an ancient system that is hard-wired into all of us?
The answer is YES!
Research has shown that small doses of cannabinoids from cannabis plant can signal the body to make more endocannabinoids and build more cannabinoid receptors.
This is why many first-time cannabis users don’t feel an effect, but by their second or third time using the herb they have built more cannabinoid receptors, a better functioning endocannabinoid system and are ready to respond.
Better functioning endocannabinoid system means more receptors which increase a person’s sensitivity to cannabinoids.
Even small doses have large effects, and the individual has an enhanced baseline of endocannabinoid activity.
All the evidence show that small, regular doses of cannabis might act as a “superconductor”, as a “tonic” to our most central physiologic healing system.
Curing Disease by Helping Your Endocannabinoid System get more Cannabinoids
There’s actually a whole revolution going on right now! More and more people are becoming aware that the cannabis plant actually holds magical components that are a perfect match to our body’s Endocannabinoid System.
Here at CuredByNature.org we are determined to gather all the information at one place so you don’t have to look further.
However, there’s a ton of evidence out there.
There are numerous stories when people used the cannabis plant in one form or another, they boosted their Endocannabinoid System and got entirely rid of severe health issues.
Here’s a list of some of them:
- ADD and ADHD
- Alzheimer’s Disease
- Amotivational Syndrome
- Antibiotic Resistance
- Blood Pressure
- Colitis and Crohn’s
- Endocrine Disorders

What Can You Do To Help Your Endocannabinoid System?
Be aware that your body makes it’s own cannabinoids so it can function properly and maintain balance.
Scientific research, as well as experience from the actual users, show without a doubt that it’s very, very beneficial for your mind and your body if you help maintain that balance with a first and foremost a healthy lifestyle. That includes supplementing cannabinoids with organic whole plant CBD-rich cannabis supplements.
And NO, whole plant cannabis supplements do not have to be THC rich so you do not have to get high!!!
And there’s one more hurdle for most of us with THC-rich cannabis supplements. At the moment cannabis products that are rich with THC are mostly illegal.
Your Endocannabinoid System will actually get the same benefits if you use whole plant cannabis supplements that are CBD rich and perfectly legal!
So use the benefit of adding whole plant cannabis supplements to your daily diet!
